The Life Link, under the sponsorship of the New Mexico Department
of Health/Behavioral Health Services Division (DOH/BHSD), administers
the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse (ATODA) Prevention Training
Program for prevention professionals across the state.
The primary objectives of the ATODA Prevention Training Program
are to:
- Contribute to the health, safety and economic well-being of
the people of New Mexico by enhancing the knowledge and competency
levels of all service providers at the community level
- Provide all of the trainings necessary for certification in
prevention
- Fulfill BHSD's training mandates for prevention services contractors.
The ATODA prevention workshops are designed to provide information
that is practical, relevant and current. The Life Link actively
develops new workshops as new issues/topics are identified. Topics
are offered in a series or across levels (basic to advanced) and
are intended to provide a method for progressive learning.
The intended audience is prevention professionals and advocates
interested in furthering their professional knowledge and/or who
are interested in becoming Certified Prevention Specialists. The
workshops draw participants from youth centers, schools, health
care delivery organizations, DWI programs, treatment programs,
and a variety of other community-based agencies.
The ATODA Training Program continues to evolve through the cooperative
efforts of individuals from credentialing boards, various state
agencies, community-based providers and field professionals.
